Jasper squeezed her hand. "Tell me what Jack looks like."
"He is tall. His hair is dark brown...he is strong with broad shoulders and arms like..." Victoria stopped. Her demon changed his form constantly. "He is also a Roman soldier. Shorter and sturdy. His thighs are thick and corded from marching and climbing and running. His arms are strong from fighting and rowing and digging. He is dark, tanned from the sun, has dark hair and dark stubble that never seems to be shaved smooth." She sighed, "And sometimes he has lighter skin and blond hair and icy blue eyes looks like he lives in Valhalla. That one is sad, and each of them has a large scar here..." she touched her neck.
Jasper jumped. "A scar there?" He pointed to his own neck.
She looked down, hopeful. "You know him?"
"There are many with scars from their human lives. Most erase them or change form to hide them, but I know one who openly wears a thick scar on his neck."
"Show me."
Jasper squeezed her hand and the landscape around them disappeared. They reemerged in a more earthlike setting, wind and sky and trees...and a battle.
They stood on a small rise, again beneath a tree, but empty cultivated fields spread out before them to the horizon. Two armies on foot collided near a small stream. Victoria heard the screams, the shouting and the clash of metal on leather and the sickening thud of bodies falling to the ground. She put a hand to her mouth.
Jasper nodded. "War is Hell. There is a lot of it down here."
"He is in there?" There were hundreds of soldiers. They appeared to be Romans and Gauls. She knew from her history books that this war had waged for many years.
"Yes. He is always here."
"Am I supposed to go down there?"
"I wouldn't. I'd wait until it was over and then walk among the dead and wounded."
"I don't want to find him dead or wounded."
Jasper looked up at her. "Why didn't you say so?"
"Why should I have to say so? I am trying to find him alive."
Jasper stared at her. "You are in Hell. No one here is alive."

This was an interesting read. The author does a good job of transporting the reader to each of the specific previous former lives of herself and lover. I was pretty wrapped up in the book since it was quite the page turner. I also have to say the rape scene was terrifying. While Victoria's journey of self-discovery is thrilling, I wish there was a little more explanation about what the demon lover really is. How did the soul of Victoria's lover become a demon as he can shapeshift and also has recollection of his past lives? As a demon, how will they be able to be together in the future as Victoria is still a human? The ending was little abrupt and left me with a lot of open questions. Maybe there will be a sequel?Product details

How can you go wrong with a story that has great sex scenes? That is what originally drew me in but I have to tell you, there is a Very important message... you have to let go of the past before you can begin your future the way it is meant. Don't know what I mean? Read the story...just try and ignore the minor grammar issues. ;-)
I think I loved this story too much. WAY TOO MUCH. I literally just finished reading and I am just so awestruck with the amazing story-telling and the plot altogether. I loved it 100%!!
The scenes were steaming hot, people! Boiling! Possibly too hot for my kindle - it just couldn't take it. I don't know what his name is (Marcus, Jack, Demon, etc.) but he had me GONE. Loved him. And Victoria was an adorable character. I actually felt for her; she was real for me.
I love a good book that takes you for a journey. Even more so, I love when the characters have lived more than one life. It thickens the plot, especially if their past lives are full of turmoil and danger. I loved the mystery in this one--the love, the magic, and the complementary characters.
I DEMAND A BOOK 2! YES!
I want to know what happens! Does the Demon then come to live with her? Is he officially real now?? Maybe Victoria wakes up in the future! Maybe her life as Victoria too was a past life and it's all been a dream.
I don't know. I do know, however, is that I freakin' loved this book and you're out of your damn mind if you don't enjoy it.

When I first started this book I figured it was going to be a lot of racey sex scenes held together by a transparent story line. Fine by me. I'm not above reading stuff like that once in a while. The more I read the more surprised I became. This was a GOOD story. Interesting concept. I really enjoyed it!
Interesting premise when I began the story, especially once I could see where the author was going with the plot. However, the ending is severely disappointing and a huge fizzle. Very glad I hadn't paid for this book.
The story story starts off with a bang with one of Victoria's nightly visits by a demon. It has been happening for a while and she does not know why. Things start to change when he speaks to her for the first time and asks if she would do him a favor. He doesn't get around to asking her the actual favor and when something terrible happens to her at work she is left wondering if that event was somehow linked to his favor. Without warning and just as he starts to become interesting he does not come to her anymore. Victoria is drawn to him and sets out on a quest to find him.
The author is extremely talented, very well written and I loved all the characters. The writing style changes with the different eras which let's the story flow smoothly through the time travel. This book was very hard to put down.
Be warned, this book contains explicit sex, including rape, battlefield gore, time-travel and profound love.
Honestly when I looked at the title I thought it wasn't my cup of tea but decided to give it try. And I'm so happy I did. It was an interesting story of love with some wonderful hot and steamy scenes. I loved the characters and the storyline. I was at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.
I wanted a little more from the ending but I guess Bess wants her readers wanting more. Because I am definitely wanting more.
Don't be scared of the title. Take a chance and read outside the box. Trust me you'll like it.
At first, I thought this was just going to be a stupid demon/human erotica but I gave it a try BC of all the glowing reviews. I was very, very surprised how much I loved this book. It wasn't all sex like the first chapter lead me to believe. My one and only complaint is the grammatical errors, not too many of them though.
But this story, it was a very good twist on the traditional love stories. You always read about the man running to save the girl, crossing oceans and battlefields for the one he loves. But what if the hero was the one needing the saving? Would you run to his rescue? Would you be willing to deal with demons, literally go to Hell to save him? Or travel through time?
PLEASE read this book! It really is quite extraordinary!
